Joel Willis, May Festival 2010 Bio


A former writer for Newsday (Impulse) and Amityville Record, Joel Willis is a, self-taught, New York-based playwright and screenwriter. He’s a writer of short plays, 10-20 minutes in length. His plays: Sex On The Sofa, Charles and The Professor and The River Still Flows, were all featured at New Federal Theater, as a showcase for emerging writers, in 2007. Though he enjoys writing plays, his love is for screenwriting. In 2009, his collaborative efforts helped complete a full-length screenplay: Little Eva. He describes himself as a diligent scene writer who constantly looks for ways to improve his skill sets, as he attends workshops, seminars, and reads books on the subject. He’s an accomplished poet and an athletic trainer. He is a graduate of Hofstra University.
