Jamie Shawn Tan, May Festival 2010 Bio


Jamie Shawn Tan is a professional actor from Singapore and has been in numerous TV Commercials, dramas, sitcoms, short films and stage productions in Singapore. He has also done some animation voiceover work and greatly enjoys creating a repertoire of character voices. He has lived in New York City and in the US for the past 2 years. After recently graduating from the Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute in New York, Jamie is now embarking on a new chapter in his acting career here in the US.
Within the past 3 months following his graduation from the Lee Strasberg Institute, Jamie made his improvisational acting debut with The Urban Chase Group in Harlem. He also played "Root", one of Robin Hood's merrymen in "Robin Hood - One for All" - a children's production staged by the Ryan Repertory Company at the Harry Warren Theater in Brooklyn, NY.
Jamie's most recent lead role was that of "Rooster Hannigan" in "Annie, Minus the Orphans" - a short, off-broadway stage adaptation of Orphan Annie at The Producers Club.
In 2007, Jamie took part in the annual Short & Sweet 10-Minute Play Festival in Singapore & performed in "Smoke" - a production which won the Best Overall People's Choice Award.
Apart from acting, Jamie is also a qualified ESL Teacher and has taught Speech and Drama to school children from the ages of 3 to 16 years in Singapore. He has also taught acting in the Young Actors Program at the Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute.
